Description

A Plenoptic camera (e.g. RayTrix) captures in one shot hundreds of tiny images thanks to a Lenslet objective (an objective composed of hundreds of micro lenses). However, the cost and technology to make such a camera is still high due to complicated optical configuration and its calibration.

In this project, we tackle such difficulties by simulating a plenoptic camera’s optical configurations. This project eventually aims to prototype such a customized plenoptic camera.
LISA-VR has expertise in plenoptic imaging and has developed several tools such as Reference Lenslet content Convertor (RLC), and Reference Plenoptic Virtual camera Calibrator (RPVC). These tools are commonly used in international standardization activities.

The ideal candidate for this Master thesis is driven and a problem solver. The student wants to learn simulation techniques and hardware prototyping. The student will be able to work in a dynamic team.

Prerequisites: programming experience (C++ and/or Python), familiarity with image processing is a plus.
